Hail, sons and daughters of Arthur!
I50 is coming up quickly and I wanted to make a short PSA to remind folks of a couple important issues.
As we well suspect, I50 is going to bring a lot of new people to the server, and to the realm. Some of these people are returning beta testers, who for one reason or another took a break from playing for a while. Some will be experienced DAOC players, but who may be new to Phoenix. Some are going to be completely new and will have never played DAOC before.
This population boost means that RvR is probably going to be more "zergy" than we've heretofore experienced. If you (like me) like this kind of RvR, then you will probably find a lot to like in i50 since there will probably be multi-groups heading out for keep attack and defend missions, dominate missions, etc.
For those that prefer more intimate engagements (8man, small-man, duos), you will likely have to settle for action on the periphery, or logging in off-hours. There will still be small-man action even during prime hours: roaming around in the rear areas, preventing reinforcements from reaching the embattled keeps, blocking at the milegates, etc. Perhaps like-minded players from the other realms will also roam away from the task zones and provide the smaller action that these players desire.
I50 RvR is going to be chaotic; it's going to be messy. Your perfect aoe mez is going to get broken by someone's aoe dots; you will have light tanks that don't know what an MA is; you will have healers that will blow their instas on the clothies when they are at 50% and don't have them available for the tank when he's at 10% (I might be projecting a bit on that last one!)
The point is, it won't be perfect. Nothing ever is. Please be kind. Look for the teaching moments where you can give some timely advice to a new player, or even an experienced player on an unfamiliar toon. Offer suggestions. Be understanding, tolerant, and ultimately, forgiving of the mistakes that will happen.
To those elite players here in Albion, we love you! We need you! We need more like you! Help us raise the skill level of all our players. Remember that we all started out in Cotswold, or Humberton, or Camelot Village as a level 1 newb. Imagine if you would have been handed a level 50 RR5L9 minstrel back then. After the Woot! would have worn off, you would have experienced what a lot of our new players are going to experience.
We want everyone who plays Albion on beta to return and play Albion on release. We want everyone to play the character that they want to play, and to contribute to a strong, healthy realm. Be kind. Be patient. Be helpful. The new players in Albion today will be the Champions of Albion tomorrow. Help them get there.
Please be mindful of your language to our brothers and sisters in Albion. Harsh words and insults hurt, especially when flung in the heat of the moment at someone who knows that they just screwed up and caused a party wipe. There is no worse feeling in the world than knowing your mistake ruined so much time and preparation for a whole group of other players. Being angry is ok. But turn a screw up into a teaching moment. I am grateful to the elite players that gave me gruff advice when I started, and I'm a better (though by no means good) player because of it.
We are all Albion! The Tent of Arthur is wide enough to encompass everyone who wants to play here. Everyone is deserving of a seat at the Round Table. Teach, encourage, reproach (when necessary) and we will have a strong, skilled, and successful realm where everyone is cherished and everyone contributes!
For the Realm! For Arthur! For Albion!
