Weekly RvR Task Campaigns

DAOC is about realm pride. Hibs vs Mids vs Albs. That's the spirit of DAOC.

What if there was a weekly leaderboard that showed the contribution/participation of each realm for the realm tasks. Sort of like a campaign with an overarching goal to all the realm tasks. So at the end of each week the realm with the most campaign points gets rewarded.

The campaign points would be a running total of all the rp points earned from each rvr task by the three realms during a set week. It would not necessarily be about which realm has bigger population, since there are underdog rp bonuses already in place.

For example the first rvr task of the week:

RvR task 1: alb earned 10,000 rp, mid earned 12,000, hib earned 9,000 rp.

RvR task 1: alb earns 10 campaign points, mid 12 campaign points, hib 9 campaign points.

If there were 150 rvr tasks each week the final campaign point totals could look like.

Albion earned 1430 campaign points. Midgard earned 1620 campaign points. Hibernia earned 1575 campaign points.

Midgard would be declared the winners that week then it would reset.

There could be a campaign point tracker so you can see where your realm stands.

The leaderboard could also show the top campaign point contributors from each realm. The goal being to contribute as much as possible and earn as much task RP to help your realm reach the highest campaign point total by the end of each week.

The RvR tasks on the last day could offer double or extra campaign points to raise the stakes. Sort of like a call to arms for your realm's best RvRers to help decide the winner. The tasks would be valued the same during Euro and USA primetime, so both regions could equally help determine the final outcome.

This way the leaderboard would encourage realm pride, not just what individuals or groups amass the most RP each week like on the Camelot Herald of old. There could be fireworks or banners or something for the winning realm each week.

While these are nice concepts, I see one problem there: The main factor determining which realm wins at the end of each week will in the most cases be the realm with the most RvR players and the most elite premades. There is not much one single player can do about that except playing as often as possible.

In my opinion, a campaign should be limited to one evening or maximum one real life day. In the scope of that an alliance with good leadership and some good players will see the fruits of their efforts at the end of the day.

Making this too long-term will probably lead to players getting emotionally detached from the campaign. That probably results in even less realm pride. However, making things epic in the scope of one long gaming session should lead to the effects you desire.

And apart from that: Isn't such a leaderboard exactly what the herald does already, if you set the filter to "last week" and aggregate the results to "sum over all players" or something like that?

The idea here is to have the RP gain be about the Realm not just individual RR. The current task system seems sorta too isolated. It is good in that it helps bring the action to focused areas and rewards everyone for participating though. DAOC RvR can often become too much about guilds or groups only caring about their own RP gain instead of how their realm is doing overall.

I think the idea of having a day long RvR task campaign could work too as you explained. My initial concern was about allowing both Euro and USA players being able to contribute, since the server is pretty split in terms of peak hours.

Friday could be designated as campaign day and there could be a battle involving multiple zones/tasks that could last for 12 hours or so. So the Euros would take part in the first half, while the USA players would log on later for the second half.

I just think it would be great if the server promoted realm pride and conquest instead of just individual RP gain. Back in the day DAOC RvR sort of began to falter when them game was no longer about the struggle between Albs vs Hibs vs Mids, but instead a struggle between guilds or realmates for rp gain.
