Upgrade Battlegrounds to Include Quests and Get Rid of the PVP Event

The PVP event is very popular because it provides a way for folks to level up fairly quickly via PVP however, it is unpopular because it takes away from Realm v Realm.

I propose we get rid of the PVP event all together and instead implement the Battle Ground Quests that were on live for many years for levels 15-49.

For those that do not know how these worked, I provided a link below that explains them, however, to briefly summarize, every Battleground offers several quests that offer bounty points and experience points as a reward. Each Battleground also features an NPC that sells level appropriate gear for Bounty Points. In addition to quests specific to each battleground, there are also quests for kill 10x mids and 10x hibs and a title for capping out the Battleground, "Protector of Thidranki" for example.

The merchants could sell ROG items that are similar to the ones for spellcrafting, where you /use them and they become a random rog at your level.

This would fix a lot of the problems with the PVP event (and RVR) and provide a more consistent method of leveling to 50.

I agree that I would prefer having this if the argument is that leveling here is too slow or that new players need something to help them get to a moderate RR before hitting 50. However, the one thing that makes the BG quests very different from the PvP event is that it was far more efficient to bypass enemy players in the BG quests and just do the mob ones. I would instead get rid of the mob versions and just do player kill quests in the BGs.

You're making a pretty huge assumption that the main appeal of this event is getting a new level 50 more quickly than usual, as opposed to its gameplay. What you are proposing is nothing like the event in terms of gameplay experience.

I would bet money that a significant chunk of participants would still play even if those characters got deleted after the event.

Considering there are premade groups out there with the same or nearly the same setup every event....yea

Dumb question....am I better off leveling through BG quests? Are they a thing like live? Really struggling to find groups at my awful playtimes.

It may be an assumption about why people play it, but it's not as much of an assumption for why it exists. If it was purely for the gameplay, then it wouldn't need to be a level 1 event, and XP and RPs wouldn't be through the roof. Even the name "A Level Playing Field" implies that the goal beyond fun is to catch people up. Just read the posts on these forums from those arguing that it needs to stay: the argument repeatedly hinges on the need to have a fast leveling mechanic to catch up to high RR players.

That is the argument people make for its origin (because thats what the devs said), but I would argue it is not why most of the participants play it. You can see this with the population numbers, there is very significantly more people playing during the event, which points to those people enjoying the gameplay experience of the event and not actually caring about what happens to those characters afterwards.

I realize that is not necessarily the original intent of the event, but this is how things turn out sometimes: you create something with intent X and yet people fall in love with it for reason Y.

I would also argue that the "level playing field" part of the event is as much if not more about everyone starting on the exact same footing (fresh lvl 1) than making it easier for people to catch up to other characters outside the event. It's a condensed "fresh MMO start" experience every few weeks, which is very appealing to a lot of people.

The intent was and still is these 3 things:
1) A way for new players to catch up / get to a comfortable starting position reasonably fast
2) A way for established players to reroll on another setup / realm
3) Getting previous players to come back for a while and hoping that some might stay again due to the changes that have happened since they left

The name kind of summarizes how the event works / what it is about: it's a level event, it's an event with everyone starting under the same conditions / as if they were new players.

Point 3 requires the event itself to be fun and provide gameplay that's different from the day to day action.
