The last 8v8 event was a success judging by the number of teams involved.
It also had numbers of streamers, which is a good way for casual players to discover the differents tactics possibles in 8 man, and overall brings more players to the server.
However, what was often criticized in those stream was how uneven matchs were (do you have any data on how many fights were 2:0 vs how many 2:1s ?)
Those spoiling the fun for both elite team wanting more challenge and feeder teams.
One could think of a trophy points based matchmaking system were each win increases it and losses decreases it. However this would lead to elite teams always meeting the same ones.
Therefore, a tournament style event would be more appropriate.
It would also be more rewarding for 8man teams than the current never ending matchmaking style, with a clear winner and a clear achievement for 8 man teams.
To solve the problem of timezones, there should be a NA and EU tournament, with maybe a grand final opposing both tournament winners.
First phase should be signing up (should last a few days) : form a 8 man and /tournament register EU/NA.
Each team member account's is registered as part of the team. There should be a command to add more players to a team (up to 10?) in case a member would be unavailable at the last minute.
Edit : Register system could also be guild based as it would simplify the process
Second phase is the tournament itself, based on the current 8v8 event, with matchmaking proceeding to the correct following match-ups for winner teams.
It would have a clear starting time and fights would run in parallel to minimize wait time.
Players should be allowed at least 5 minutes between each match to allow for characters switches, so each team can choose their setup according to next opponent, thus adding more strategy and reward teams able to play several setups.
No shows would be considered as a win for opposite team.
There should be new commands to allow players to see how the tournament is going and who is next opponent. Also some commands to show tournaments history.
Each account is only allowed one team per tournament, and each team either EU or NA tournament.
As for the prize, I can see at least a (rotating?) title would be awarded to the winner team members and their names in tournament history.
