Relic System Needs Some Work

The old Relic System had its issues. I am sure many players here once played on servers that would hoard all the relics and reap the high bonuses.

The system was changed for the better on Phoenix, but it could be improved upon.

Right now Relic Bonuses are too low. Capturing a relic nets the realm a 1% damage bonus. Its simply not fun. Relics are also placed in keeps that are right next to a realms portal keep, and the idea is that because they are in normal keeps, it is more balanced for attackers/defenders.

The issue has always been the distance the attacking realms have to travel to attack take or retake relics. So often is the case that when attacking groups wipe, they are less likely and willing to make the trip across multiple zones to retake the relics. Which is why the there is only one keep that should house enemy keeps. The Border Keeps should be the only keeps that can house enemy relics. Dun Crauchon, Bledmeer Faste, and Caer Benowyc.

This makes relic fights more accessible. It makes zergs easier to form and join, and it makes relic retakes more active. DAOC is heavily focused on zerging and realm pride. Putting enemy relics in the border keeps will be more fun for zerg players. The best zerg battles in this game are often at Dun Crauchon in Emain Macha.

The original Relic Bonuses should be restored. The current bonuses, feathers, rp, crafting etc.. should not scale, but instead grant their full amounts upon capture. This way realms reap the relic rewards instantly and buff their entire realm.

The way to keep zerg players engaged is to add objectives for them, as well as make their targets more easily accessible. If Hibernia is holding the Mjollner Relic in Dun Crauchon, then Mid zergers can teleport to Emain and initiate the battle. While that is going on, Midgard is holding the Staff of Merlin in Bledmeer Faste, and Albion sends forces to fight there. I think its grest thst the firdt keep task is thr border keeps, so why bot have them house relics as well.

Constant action that is easily accessible by zerg players. High bonuses that matter and don't take 10 days to level up. Making Border Keeps matter more is the key to all of this.

While I see where you are going with this I would think those keeps would be a bad choice because it would create the exact same problem but for the defender having to travel all that way. The relic would be taken back the next morning and all that hard work wasted, It might even have the effect of people not trying to take relics as often because they know they will just lose it right away after they log off. I think a better idea would be to place them in the center zone keeps, that way both defenders and attackers have to travel equally through a zone to get there.

Relics doesn't seem to matter much on this server, and I think its important that the zerg community has something else to do than the tasks. The bonuses are way more fun when they are instant. I doubt a change this drastic will ever happen, but lets admit that the current relic system is a huge disappointment for a lot of the zerg community.

For example, lets assume hibernia has both Alb Relics in DC in Emain. Midgard will be able to take the Alb relics and bring them to Bledmeer, then Hibernia can head to Odins to retake them there.
It moves the relic battle and lets zergers take part more easily.
