It would be a great QoL improvement if the consignment merchants would trigger the same dialog as the teleporter NPCs, so we don't have to rely on people setting their house permissions to enter for everyone.

In deed a good idea. Most houses are never opened (was so too on Uth), idk if people are paranoid, selfish or simply don't know the command to allow entrance and use of npcs. It was by me one of the first commands i entered in order to offer to my potential customers the possibility to port wherever they want after they've got the desired item from my merchant. But iirc, u can buy stones from merchants to port back to entrance (or another hz area) and i think it works by giving them to the cons. merchant. I still think an additional port dialog would really be a nice touch, tho.

Is there a "safe" command to do that that is also simple?

This would mean that anyone can enter, but have no ability to change/take anything.

It is all well and good complaining about paranoia, but setting up permissions is complex and not worth the trouble in most cases, if only 1 person is using the house.

When someone enters their house for the first time, information about the command could be added as a pop-up message.

I don't complain, was just observing the fact that on my original server (live) most of houses were always open, i only had to face this 'closed door' problem since i play on freeshards, and don't know why... Anyway, to answer your question, it's pretty easy to set it and define basic authorizations.

/housefriend all (and then define what they can do and what not)

For my part, i authorize entrance, paying the rent (u never know ^^), using npcs. Obviously, they cannot move or add objects, or withdraw merchants money, neither have they access to the vaults.
