Preserve style queue through target not in view

Do not wipe the queued style(s) whenever a swing attempt fails due to "Target is not in view". This would stop swings being reverted to unstyled by walkthroughs.

Currently even spamming/holding down a given style's key up until the swing can be fired successfully results in "You are already preparing to use this style!" followed by an unstyled swing regardless of it there was an additional instance of "Target not in view" between or not.

Rule 1. Put your weapons away between swings if youre wanting to strafe for a positional.

This would mean people would just spam keystrokes... Most likely the server would lag and crash. We already have a lot of keyspammers.

I agree its annoying and it makes AHK macro fail, cause you can't start your macro before reaching your target and being in combat:
If you have a positional or reactionary first and then your style as a backup, the game will register your positional/reac first and open fight mode with it, so you will always start unstyled if you are not already swinging, which is annoying.

Maybe just add your combat stroke on/off after each AHK macro, not sure if it would work.

This suggestion is aimed more at the recipient of strafe and not the user of it. Using stick or autoface or sprint backwards or manually keeping your character's view frontwise with mouse does not prevent your style queue from being wiped when someone is trying to use walkthroughs on you especially for sidestyle+followup spam.

The point of my requesting the queue be preserved isn't for the sake of backup styles either, it is for the first style. Sheathing your weapon, facing the target, then pressing he style key against a target going in and out of view frequently results in an unstyled swing as well (for the same reason that walking sidewise up to someone, using /face, and using a style without waiting will cause the style to be dropped or fail).

For a good idea of what I'm getting at duel a skilled valewalker and skim through your combat log afterward. Use a style with a hit bonus so you can differentiate between styled misses and unstyled misses.

edit: vs -> against

It’s annoying, it’s not as annoying as the unavoidable sidestun part of it.

We are just Lucky that playing a solo visible in RvR is bleak and therefore, VWs are rare.. we are double lucky that playing a melee ranger is unviable here.

(Also I think I maybe am less enraged with losing style que cos Friars have a good anytime).

I believe when you have a style and a followup selected that further key presses do not send packets until the next swing attempt (different from casting in that pressing a spell after already readying a followup replaces the 2nd queued spell)

I only made mention of spamming the key to demonstrate that no timing or amount of presses gets around the issue of "Target is not in view" turning your swing into an unstyled one. The other point is that even though the game is refusing style inputs ('You have already selected a style and followup!' ) that that message is immediately followed by an unstyled swing with no in-between logs. Those 2 things mean it is impossible to execute a style without sheathing your weapon if your target has been out of view when your swing timer was ready.

That also means that the faster your swing speed is the more disadvantaged you are fighting a strafing opponent because 1)the window between your swings is smaller and 2)the number of failed attempts to fire a swing increase and 3)the delay between your attacks is increased by each failed attempt to fire a swing.

Learn to style when in range and learn to queue the correct style for your positional, or go in with anytimer opening.

This isnt an issue. Its a “skill/challenging” (used very loosely because its really not difficult) part of the game. Shouldnt be changed, just learn to navigate it through correct style choice and correct melee timing.

In society its the opposite, the more skilled you are the more handicap you should have (taxes, threat, isolation).
Here you say the less skilled you are the less you should earn.

This has nothing to do with range and you didn't read any of the thread. Queueing styles at range is a separate issue and which style is being queued first is if no consequence because no style is being attempted at all.

Have you seen a sport competition once in you life?
Do you think the best driver in formula one have handicaps?
