Make Cleric Smite Spec DD the same range as its AE DD.

Smite clerics have a spec DD that is 1350 range, but their spec AE DD is 1500. This reduced range was part of a nerf from DAOC at the time. There are other things people would like to see considered (casting time, damage output, etc) but coming from someone who's main is a smite spec cleric, this single change to range of DD makes the most sense to me.
Cleric Stun - 1500 range
Cleric Spec AE DD - 1500 range
Cleric Single target Spec DD - 1350...

If you wanted to keep this from getting out of hand, keep the non-spec DD at 1350 range. Only reward people with the points in Smite with the increased range (which really brings it in line with every other castable DD in the game)

I was looking into that issue myself, i thing they should even the ranges of the DD to the Stun range. other then stun and instants the clerics seems to not be very usefull with that mini range, when they get any nearsight they are total useless ^^ Even it to all other caster range DD's - i mean to be fair the dmg is anyway not much compared to a caster DD Casting times are 3 seconds and the dmg on basline DD is 127, thats the dmg any chanter pet does xD even the spec is a laughable 176 DD thats the dmg of an ARBO ani AOE SPIRIT Thats laughable anyway. ... i would give him an instant pbaoe stun of 6 seconds radius 250 cooldown 8 minutes or so wih 40 smite+ so it would at least fit into the line, remove the spec single nuke and ramp up the baseline nuke to spec nukes dmg.

I agree that the stun should be 1500. I also think the baseline DD should be more efficient, given its every restriction (low range, low damage--Ok w/ that, slow cast-time--OK w/ that, high mana cost). Will help clerics do damage without totally sacrificing their mana pool, and makes this distinction of Albion's healer class more unique.

I think another good change would be to reduce the cost of smite spells and add in the snare in the smite line.

If people want to play them, why not let them?

Baseline Smite should be a standard baseline DD, or be decent (153) with high mana efficiency. Smite's weakness really does harm Alb.

All these are good ideas, but I'll return to my original point - simply making the range of the spec DD to 1500 with everything else (their stun and AE dd is _already_ 1500 range) would go a LONG WAY.

Not directly adressing the question.. but what actually is the place for a smite Cleric in rvr? Do alb grps run with 1 aug/heal and 1 smite/heal cleric? So smitecleric buffs base, stuns and assistnukes/heals?

I always thought of smite cleric as something noone ever plays since you get the best spell in the baseline. All his spells except CC looks like shitty versions of Thane DDs.

Smite is almost worthless in RvR and I don't think any group would try to group one unless they were desperate.
