Right now we have a zone that has the "rvr tasks" and that same zone has "porting". Personally, I cant STAND porting. I think it is seriously the worst possible addition to this server aside from ToA. Having said that, IF porting is here to stay (and I hope to GOD that it is not) could we consider some alternatives?
For example, could we consider having porting exist in the zone that DOESN'T have the rvr task? Right now, unless you're in an 8man or a zerg, the game is damn near unplayable. As a soloer, I port in (probably die instantly) but assuming i survive, i find a solo, i attack them, maybe i win, probably they get heals and i lose, but either way i'm probably getting steamrolled by the zerg or one of the 7000 FGs or smallmans out there anyway.
I COULD go to one of the other zones and run around and find..... mobs. Mobs, mobs, mobs.... no players though... RIght now the RvR tasks attract damn near EVERYONE who is willing to go out to the task zone, but the instant action makes it impossible unless you're running a good 8man or a zerg.
Old DAoC (without porting) had something for everyone. There was this notion that if you went to high traffic areas (aka chokepoints) you could expect random groups or small mans or even the occasional zerg to run through. You could also go elsewhere and things would be slower but have some potential depending on the day. Unfortunately, Phoenix right now is at the extremes. There is either non-stop, pure chaos, call of duty style action in ONE zone only, while the others are dead as a graveyard. There needs to be a way to even this out.
I am not an 8man player, I am an occasional visi zerger (with my RM), but the way i see it right now, this server has gone a bit too far with the porting aspect and instant action. This is not DAoC. This is flat out Quake, Unreal, Call of Duty, take your pick, with a leveling aspect. This is not DAoC.
