Icyboi's Suggestion Compendium (QoL Improve/Make Friars Great Again/Etc)

1) Make it so you can "delve" loot by rightclicking it (instead of having to Shift I every single time) . Even if I can only see the iLvl that's fine, I can just trash low tier stuff immediately, without having to delve each RoG. Would be nice to see at a glance.

2) Make Friars Great Again. Give them heal styles on their staves. Currently friars are pidgeonholed into being PvE rejuv healers (and base buffers) and any friar using a staff is frowned upon. In PvP they are considered "out of meta" except for small man, and this would further boost their small man utility while giving them more viable specs and possible big boy viability, which they lack currently.

3) Stop spawning newbies in towns like Humberton and shit. Just let us pick or let us all spawn where there are teleporters near a bindstone. Sheesh guys

4) Tweak autosell so you can set exceptions or something. I'm sick of autoselling my XP loot and my vendor item...

5) Thanks for Paladin changes holy shit. This iisnt a suggestion I've just been thinking about it a lot. And QoL. Love you all for bringing this version of the game back to life

5 B) Overhaul the Map a little? It kind of sucks that you can't just look at the map for the FZ zones while in SI, or the SI while in Classic, or whatever. Sometimes I'm trying to orient myself to an area I need to TP to while I'm not in that zone, and I have to open a browser to do this. Is this an EZ fix?

6) Tweak yer RoG calculator. Staves everywhere. Everything has +all magic +all combat (like...everything, it drives util up but its useless). Lots of stats come out as +1 or +1% to a resist, while the rest of the piece will be great. Needs to be normalized and tweaked just slightly. Overall I love the system but it could be a tiny bit friendlier/more useful.

7) Can we get some documentation about task loot? I know the "info is on the wiki" but for a new player its not enough..or even a directionally challenged returning player. Alb/Mid/Hib ---> Here are mobs/locations/their loot ---> here is their turnins. A bit heavy on the QoL maybe but it would help so many new players and facilitate ease of levelling a lot. People are asking this question tons of times a day anyway.

8) Hire some content creators to explain what daoc is, how daoc works, how to decide ur class, how to assimilate into the game quickly type stuff. More than 10 people Ive seen cant even figure out how to attack things when they get into game. No one knows how teleporting works and quickest ways to move around map. Finding correct camps after level 10 is kinda difficult if ur really new. Figuring out how classes work, how they fit together, what combos work, what specs are good for pve or for pvp....lots of documentation could be done by some higher minds than mine that could help TRULY NEW PLAYERS (we got a lot of buzz from reddit it seems) join the game and stick around to enjoy it.

9) Make it so typing a command to open a gump closes the gump. For Ex if I make a macro for /task to open my task gump, make it so I can tap the command again to close it? (same way M opens and closes map) (wouild also work for /train, /task personal, etc)

10) Remove EGG PER HOUR CAP. C'mon. If you can figure out how to farm 100+ mobs an hour you deserve the eggs. If you can't figure it out then someone please teach the ways. No reason to penalize people for gaining free XP through eggs.

11) Update the Qbind system in some way? Not sure if this one is possible but the UI is hella dated (even with Bobs) and it would be nice to be able to bind quickly and efficiently when you're making tons of binds.

12) Make me the GM of the newbie guild (Alb) so I can promote Advisors to help people who are new to the game + use the shittons of wasted merit points to activate guild XP bonus for my fellow incredibly awesome guildmates

13) ....

I agree with points 7 and 8. Some of the info needs to be disseminated better to new players.

1) get a better UI where there are buttons for item delve

2) no

3) ?

4) use brain?

5) get better UI

6) its fine as it is, take a look at drops from that time period which where not ROGs you can see that the tats are not really better. also for lvling stats dot not really matter

7) ... ppl just need to figure out how to use google

8) i know for a beginner of daoc it is pretty hard to unterstand the game, but in fact when i started the game 16 years ago the where no porters, no maps, no ROGs.... and it still worked.
BTW do you want to pay those ppl telling newbies how to play?
learn to use google if you have questions.

All of your replies amount to "use brain"? Hello? This is DAoC PvE Mode 2019 I'm not trying to use my brain.

If I was trying to use my brain would I need porters? Account Vault? Auto Crafting? Please man try to USE YOUR BRAIN before you formulate responses.

Besides, These are all suggestions I'm making from the viewpoint of "Hi Noob Here, How Do I Play Game?". The Dev team has done an excellent job of making the server (and DAoC Classic) more accessible than ever. I'm just trying to further urge that initiative.

Lol "use brain" get outta here dude.

1) get a better UI where there are buttons for item delve

I've tried using Bobs but I'm talking about things like..having the Utility Value on right Click. Also Delving each item individually with ANY UI isn't particularly great.

2) no

Friars aren't in a great spot right now PvE OR PvP. Personally, I like the class a lot but a lot of other classes got some significant changes to update them into 2019 and I think Friar Heal Styles went a long way to revitalizing this class. Lots agree.

GOOD FEEDBACK THOUGH.

3) ?

This is an easy one. It's not intuitive for brand new players and returning players ask the same 5 questions about porters and horse routes every time they start in, say, Humberton for example. Just plop new players in Cotswold or Gothwaite Harbor instead. Easy fix. Clears up confusion.

Not sure why this is a difficult concept for you to understand but I'll try to keep responding as thoughtfully as I can to your SNARK. BUDDY.

4) use brain?

I'm beginning to think you don't have one, as poorly thought out as your replies are.

This is an EASY FIX the seller already ignores things like your bind stone and phoenix eggs. Again truly new players and returners alike would thank u for this one.

5) get better UI

..Okay well you actually have a point here. There are some decent Map UI choices out there. But they've already included it as part of the package so....

6) its fine as it is, take a look at drops from that time period which where not ROGs you can see that the tats are not really better. also for lvling stats dot not really matter

Okay there is a lot wrong with this statement. First of all, you're completing ignoring the joy a lot of loot hunters (myself included) have of sifting through mounds of loot and finding a random item here and there that's actually worth something. I've yet to find more than a few pieces of stat jewelry worth KEEPING (wearing, sure, but awesome item? ehh) because of how WONKY the RoG loot calc is. Again, another seemingly easy fix to me, and a boon to the players.

ALSO WHY DO YOU KEEP REFERRING TO THE TIME PERIOD!? IT'S 2019!!! WHY DO YOU THINK THIS SERVER IS SO POPULAR!? Are you actually an idiot? Or trolling me? Seriously dude, stop referring back to 2001. We're not there. Maybe you still are, but everyone else ---- movin right along.

7) ... ppl just need to figure out how to use google

You seem like you need to learn how to socialize. Just because people want the QoL changes doesn't mean they're idiots. My google-fu is MUCH more powerful than yours, I assure you. You're just cringe-lord-level cynical, and it shows.

8) i know for a beginner of daoc it is pretty hard to unterstand the game, but in fact when i started the game 16 years ago the where no porters, no maps, no ROGs.... and it still worked.
BTW do you want to pay those ppl telling newbies how to play?

I don't believe that you DO know how hard it is. I think you've long since forgotten and your powers of putting yourself in noobs shoes are completely nonexistent. Again you reference how things were 16 YEARS AGO. Why do you still think that is relevant? I'm telling you, unless you refer to it in terms of "You need to update this because it was shit 16 years ago", it wont help grow the server. New players will not want to spend the time trying to understand what 12 year old you was perfectly fine w/ struggling to understand 16 YEARS AGO.

And if I made a few dollars teaching and promoting this game then sure, I'd put it back into the community to get those content creators to make the content. Wouldn't you?

Actually judging from your responses, you'd probably NOT. Then tell them to go google it, or some trash.

why do you want devs to invest time for a tool that makes exceptions on autosell?
just "use your brain" put all those items you dont want to sell in one bag and simply do not sell them. how would the devs know what you want to specifically not sell? and why sould xp loot not be sellable? if i get 10 of them i dont need more and i really like it that you can sell it and not just shift+d them.
im sorry i hurt you by saying that, but it is as it is. thats like doing nothing in school and afterwards arguing about not getting a graduation. some thing in life require using your brain.... i dont know why this is debateable

to all your other statements: better play another game that is more "2019". ppl love classic daoc because its classic and yeah there are some QoL changes that were really needed, but ppl like you want to change the entire game to a way that is is no more daoc. and since this is a freeshard you can not expect the hosts to hire ppl who tell nobbs how to play. ive never heared of any other game where this was done tbh.

daoc was once a game where you had to discover everything by yourself and imo this was one of the essences of the game. now after 18 years the internet is full of information about the game and youre just too lazy to get up your ass and google it. i dont get why anyone should waste their time explaining everything to guys like you, if you want to play daoc and be good at it, invest your own time!

While I do agree with some of the points he listed, I find it absolutely comical that Icyboi was in chat this entire week complaining about people who didn't know how to find any of this information instead of helping.

Some of this is spot on like friars and all, but the plot is lost when you want a staff that has no income from this project and only debits, plus all the time and maintenance, to actually HIRE 10 people, to do what exactly, make youtube vids on how not to be a noob? Some if these things fix themselves with growing pains, some from listening to guild or /advice channel answers. Some will need their hand held, but hiring 10 people I'm with another above I've never heard of that and I think before any serious consideration of that let us all know where the funds are going to come from for 1 person hired to work on content creation like that, let alone 10.

Also if you click a macro you literally placed on a bar you have to sell everything in bag 1, then its on you if you click it and there was something in bag 1 you didn't want to sell. You literally set up the parameters and it is on you. The same argument could be used for other "Whoops" moments like buying 100 of the wrong item for crafting, its yours now you failed to pay attention which is what this problem comes down to, just pay more attention to the game, same point really as "use brain". Don't click your SELL BAG1 macro if you don't want to sell all the items in bag 1, really not more complicated that this.

For the ROGs its fine they are random and they still tweak it here and there to reduce items that don't make sense. But 1% resist on something doesn't make it a bad item, only really low utility makes it bad item, or mixing +chants with +staff or something.

The quickest QOL change I'd make considering the repeated questions n00bs (to the server, not the game, pretty much most of the demographic of all players) need a FAQ just put onto the bottom of the login welcome to phoenix popup. Just put the top 10 questions and their answers that are in /advice every day again. It's clear they will not read the forums for answers or FAQs, put something in game they can read and maybe it will reduce the same questions over and over.
