How to improve the upcoming PvP event.

Hello, it's me again!

Very happy to see the PvP event coming back but some tweaks need to be made to make it more fun.

1.Remove timer.
2.Make it FFA and have random port locations to X area. (let me explain a bit, making it FFA you make it so zerging will be impossible, yes you will still get added non stop but 2 groups can't just gang up on one as they will just end up hitting each other too. Mainly tho it will make the engages feel more natural and will add the element of getting swooped/ganked from a hill etc. This is very important part as it adds the element of roaming.
3.Limit group sizes at off hours to 5 just like in beta to create very fun small battles thru out the map, was most likely the best fun i ever had in daoc.

Your suggestion is basically to make this event totally different than what the devs plan for it to be, not just changing a small part, changing the entire feel and purpose of the event itself.

Based on the GM's post it seems like this event is supposed to be more of a tournament setting. So you want to make it a free for all with no set up fights and totally remove the tournament settings? We already had an event like that before, why not let this one be different? I like the idea of fights that can't be added on. When I run with my regular 3 man I can probably count on one hand the even numbered fights we have gotten without any adds.

Would love to see no RP's awarded in this event to show how all 99.9% of the elitist only actually care about is RP's and not these 'fair fights' they argue for.

instead of having those register commands give us npc dialogue options I doubt many will want to look those commands up on the forum or anywhere outside the game

If they want to make an "Arena"-event then making it FFA would be kinda pointless? I do agree about the realm timer during this weekend though since you might want to try out different setups within the same group. If they have troubles with cross realming just make it so that you can not enter normal RvR-zones after switching realms, only play in the Arena.

some of the nicest people ive ever played with are elitist, and some of the biggest dickheads ive ever played with are trash players.

Mordred style pvp arena is a missed trick without (even temporary) timer removal

Please remove the realm timer during this event. Many players have RvR ready toons available in 2 or more realms. Limiting a player's options with a 12 hour timer will certainly put a damper on the fun.

That looks like a very strong player to me.


Maybe we can have both, one area for tournament and one for FFA pvp like last time. And of course reduced or removed realm timer, if you're allowing cross realm for the event there is literally 0 arguments left for the timer.

To answer the OP:

1. No.
2. No. This is not the PVP event (not long ago we had a PvP event). This weekend we want to make a different event, which is the Arena event (tournament style). Very soon there will be another event. Totally different than the PvP & the Arena event.
3. No. There is the "/arena current" command which shows Infos about the current tournaments. Players will easily see how many enemies are there to fight for every possible grpsize (1, 2, 3, 5 or 8).

So if I understand correctly there could be many 3v3 tournaments in one weekend. In fact if enough teams join up there could be multiple independent 3v3 tournaments occurring at once. And if / when you lose you could just join up for the next 3v3 tournament over and over all weekend?

If yes, then sign me up!

I'm not an elitist but I do like RP's and to be honest RP's will get people to try it no?

Also how will RA timers work? Do they get reset at the start of each fight? Disable some of the active RA's? TBH this will setup to be a Ceriac stone farm week so people can just cook up the best RA builds, maybe? But I'm still quite interested to participate regardless!

None of this is meant to be negatives around this event, I want to participate in this event just want to know how it will work (the finer details).

resetting cooldowns every fight has ups and downs....

obvious uoside would be that it removes fights being decided too much by luck of active RAs...
lets say there are 3good contenders in a tournament, and one has to fight them both after another they won't have RAs up for the later fight, while the other two favorites fight each other with other fights in between and have their cooldowns up again

downsides would be that RAs like purge don't need to get specced above lvl2, and that RAs that are balanced over really long cooldowns are suddenly up every fight making them much stronger. This would also require more respeccing imo if you don't want to be at a disadvantage


No idea which solution is better/fairer though, but befiore someone claims that there are no downsides to either side, here you go

Just run TWF5/ST5 comps for 2's and 3's and 5's If they reset every fight. No longer matter what the class is just what the RA comp is.

So if I understand it's going to be mini-tournaments (round-robin) running all weekend. Like you could enter into 1 mini 3v3 tournament after another. Make the resets at the start of each tournament? Smart teams just kite out the for sure wins longer? So 15 min RA's be up more per tournament? Make RA's reset after every 3 matches? How many teams per tournament? If 4 or 7 that would be 1 reset or 2?

I don't think they should reset every match. Everyone would just get Purge 2 regardless of RR or class.

Regardless of rules it will be fun. I just worry that it's gonna be decided by RA comp vs. class comp in the end?

The whole reason for the realm timer is to keep realm pride, but then allowing mordred style groups throws that out the window. How do you have realm pride I'd your running a multi realm group. If a guild runs a multi realm group for the arena they will lose a night of rvr once arena dies down. The 12 hour timer should be removed for the duration of the arena event.

So if I understand the update, the winners get as much as the losers? What kind of event is this? Yay I beat xyz rando hibs one time in a meaningless 3v3 event and I got a participation ribbon, oh wait I don't even get a ribbon?

I'm just joking but why no RP's?

I'd seriously do this but so many people are not gonna waste a weekend (usually best RvR) of RP's to do something with no rewards, except task credit which lvl 35+ can achieve by body pulling guards at their nearest keep?

Incentivize it so teams are literally willing to blow many many plats respecing RA's skills, even races to find that edge?? Helps the economy

And Yeah, without realm timer it would be even better and easier to build the most fotm setup but has anyone stopped and thought the other way around. Instead of going: "with realm timer active i can't jump around and built loads of different setups...get the pichdorks" one could also think "nice, they made it FFA so noone will get locked away from their friends accidently and miss out on the event". I personally i dont like crossrealm grouping but i can see benefits for other players...

Test was really cool. I think that the rps was fair enough with participation task and task steps through kills. with rps for the kills it would be a bit too much.

Was fun. I hope i will find the time to take part at the weekend.

So far I have loved all the events and participated in many of the tests however, did not do this one, reaons:

1) People I knew wanted to RvR for RP's so couldn't find team (never an issue in other events)
2) The x-realming quality to it is terrible. Completely goes against what this game is about and I thought what this server was striving for.

You get realm RvR task completion credit for RvRin'g WITH your enemies?

Was very buggy and terrible, got ported back into a fight with res sickness and had random scouts ported into the arena.

Why add this arena type of event anyway, it just shows the lack of understanding of the game by GM's, you take out many essential parts like how you engage the other group by flanking, hill diving, swooping, getting unexpected inc etc those elements to daoc are what make this mmo the best one ever created, if we wanted to play battlegrounds type PvP we would play some other game like WoW or ESO.

Same goes for instant ports, why live just become complete garbage is they made it too easy to port near action, you as a player should be alert, aware and on your toes with best possible group you can put together before you venture out into the battlefield and you should be getting ganked multiple times before even reaching the area you were heading to.

That is what makes DAOC fun, the aspect of roaming not this #tasklife insta port to PK running weapons drawn out at each other between amg and mmg or fighting in a arena BOX.

You made one of the best things for daoc in over a decade and that was the 5vs5 8vs8 PvP event with FFA roaming and totally random port locations to spread the action out, every single person is missing the hell out of that but it seems just for spite and hate towards 8vs8 community you are not allowing us to play that.

Possibly to late to add many changes but few things to possibly improve (caveat I only did the 1v1 tournament):

-the rebuffing after every fight, took long enough in 1v1's I can't imagine the 5v5 or 8v8... did peeps accidentiily forfeit as they were rebuffing?
-better indicator of who won your tournament, or perhaps I missed something, I found out as a friend of the winner told everyone in /say
-no time to recharge between most fights, again this might be something I'm missing mechanics wise, but I lost a fight or two at end as 2 charge items were empty


What I liked most: Talking with the different people during the fight and just joking or having fun with it. No surprises with any of the match-ups.
Issues I see with the event: Not nearly as much actual RvR, Rp's or action as the previous 2 events. Lots of standing around waiting to start, trying to form teams, waiting for the queue to initially start. In 2 hours I earned 1000 from tournament and 3 task dings for about 2500 rp's overall which will turn away most people. Avid small-man players I know just left and went back to RvR after about 45 minutes.

My suggestion is to give special titles for events...wait a minute where is my 3v3 pvp event title?

Also, please add same realm kills to /title as it shows on the Herald but not in game.
