I know the developers have said that Speed consumables and Speed mounts would not be implemented. However, there is a desperate need to promote healthy visible small man / solo action out there. At the moment, the game is on the exact same Uthgard path of either being "Stealth Wars" or "8v8" or "8v2" or "Zergy Mcfergy".
My opinion is that we need bodies out there in the frontiers. We need to encourage people to go out and fight for the realm; however, it is hard to do that when you get gobbled up with Speed 5 + Sprint. This leaves people who do not want to 8 man (either by personal choice or because less time to allocate to gaming on a given night) to go the Stealth route or Skald/Min/Bard +1. This leads to very bland gameplay that we have seen over and over.
If Hastener's give out Speed 5 that lasts for 10 minutes and breaks on combat / debuff / etc, then you at least give the visible players a tool to leave the frontier keep and explore. They have a fighting chance not to be gobbled up. Once they engage in a fight - they are now speedless and you can proceed to eat them up. It is not fun getting constantly chased down by speed. Leads to people logging off and not going to fight for the realm. This is NOT the same as speed consumables or "on demand" speed that the Dev's said they were not going to implement. Seems like a healthy compromise that I am sure many of the non-8 man people would agree is healthy.
The only people who don't want this system are those gained to benefit from gobbling up the peons. You can still gobble us up - but let us at least have 10 minutes of "hope" to find a fight we choose to take (i.e., 1v1 or 2v2).
