My suggestion is that instead of allowing one attacker to extend the task on keeps rather do it as a threshold of defenders vs attackers.
If not enough attackers to defenders ratio, then keep task just progresses on.
That way the keep will not keep resetting and making it drag out.
Failing that, if there is some sort of internal timer, whatever that is set for, make it WAY shorter. So task will reset instead of 50 defenders standing around while suicide lemmings hit the keep keeping task going.
