Dear all,
First of all, I would like to thank all the people that does this voluntary work on Phoenix.
I'm writing this post today because I would like to see some improvments to be done for casual daoc players.
At first, I would like to define casual daoc players are people playing for unplanned hours; not always willing to depend on other or environment to be able to play. It includes everyone that do like to log on and just have fun.
I think the recent events made clearly highlighted the fact that a DAoC ready to play is what most of the people are looking for. Lamfota's tower have never been so crowded since decades.
I have noticed that the current set-up (without event) of the game is made so that different prime times get actions for RvR and GvG. Which is correct; because this is when most of the people are willing to play and organize themself to.
On my side; with many others; I'm playing during the day and the game is all about doing to the bled/crau/benow bridge or dock. It's still funny some times; yet you suffer a lot from ME vs ME + X.
The main reason which is quiet obvious and previously mentionned is that the RvR during those times is too concentrated. In fact; with the actual buff set up and red guards, taking keeps is impossible. So people just go the the realm's closest teleport.
My idea then, would be to find a way to extend the areas of interest without injuring people's prime time.
I think a previous improvment of NF called NNF (1.115) was made before and I think I did like it. In fact; it enlarge and diversified areas of interest within the frontiers. Please find below the ones I would suggest, some containing some personal adjustments:
1. Crauchon / Bled / Benowyc turned into ruins. (https://darkageofcamelot.com/article/patch-1115-comes-live-servers)
This would allow smallman or little groups to have RvR actions (or even open DF) without having to be at least 20 persons. 4 people could have fun in taking over a CK and its defense in a challenging manner.
Moreover, ruins were making it actually possible to solo in a small area; with escape way if ruins used as a proper maze.
Finally; we would stop seeing people abusing the existing either running to guards; using siege weapons all day on bridge to leech RPs; etc.
1.bis Docks and TP removed from 1. and moved to Nott/Crim/Berk/ (https://darkageofcamelot.com/article/patch-1115-comes-live-servers)
Enlarging zones of interested between those keeps and ruins. Making it more interesting and less adding.
2. Define Solo & smallman tasks
As of today; rewards for both those "casual" ways of playing the game suffer from dedicated rewards and both are suffering from fighting on the same play grounds. I would highly suggest the following:
- Rewards solo kills tasks with solo oriented rewards such as Phoenix claws.
- Rewards small man by building own tasks (and maybe define a maximum number?) in their own zone (I would say in Maze but to be discussed).
3. Define new areas of interest
- Doppleganger alike; droping phoenix feathers?
- Collection items on ruins and mazes; giving out BP and or even xp?
I guess many here would have more suggestion; so if you read this topic; what would be yours?
You can see my suggestion wouldn't impact the standard way of playing the game, so I hope it would get some support from the community.
All the best;
