So I've been on Phoenix for about 2 weeks after returning to live and seeing the population even more slumpy than ever. Now, before you throw rocks - hear me out, lol. I LOVE phoenix, this server rocks. I've played since a month before SI dropped and I looooove PVE and RVR in this game. I tend toward RVR, and so do my friends that I brought to the server with me - but the whole game rocks. In the last 5-6 years or so we've all had less play time, and tended toward BGs when we played on live. I know not everyone is a fan of BGs, and I see many posts in these forums that discuss a feeling that it takes away from pop for Frontiers RVR. Some of the best/most fun fights we've had since OF on Live have been in BGs like Molvik, Thid, (even Wilton had people out for a while), and the Cathal remake they added back to Live. While I totally get the situation with Frontiers or "Big Boy" RVR, the game is also really fun in BGs, and it is easy to understand why some people prefer BGs - here are a few reasons why:
Smaller map/less time - if there are a group or two of each realm in a BG you constantly can get roam fights, or keep defense/siege fights if you're into it. You're not roaming the entire frontiers for 2 hours for 2 or 3 fights. I have not played NF on this server, but that was our experience on Live - even before all of the extra janky NF additions like Lab etc.
Cheaper(in time/pp) to template - It is just cheaper to create a template for a non-50 and you don't have to focus as much on things like Raid drops(at least SI chest and maybe some dragon stuff here?)
RR cap - while this isn't a huge issue if you're a group player, because a well played group can compete with higher RR groups if things go well - in a BG nobody is 5-10 RR higher than anyone else and that makes for a more even fight for people who only log in a few hours a day.
Molvik - Now I am not gonna beg for my favorite BG to be here all the time instead of as an event thing or whatever(that I read about) buuuut on live Molvik has had its own community and groups across all three realms that played consistently for a long time. In fact, I could probably go to postcount right now and find 50-100 people who love and only play Molvik. I know this isn't everyone's thing but it is the thing for a lot of us - and would likely bring even more population to this amazing server. It doesn't have to be Molvik, but getting more BG action into one of the existing BGs say... Caledonia or Cathal would be pretty amazing! Anyway... just some thoughts based on the perspective of us BG players. Anyway, if nothing else see you in thid cause there are some fights in there - I just wanted to see if any of the other BG players from live ended up here like we did.
Other than those obvious thidders.
The only ask or suggestion here is not to shun those of us who love the BGs, or even better - maybe add a random incentive to play in the BGs like 10% extra RPs in a BG or something. This might encourage more people to use BGs to prepare a toon for NF as well, I mean... who doesn't want to go out there with 3L0 or more to start? And then some of you NF only people might get a taste of my cold cold steel.
