The geography can be pretty wonky in some places, maybe you just got unlucky and encountered a pretty one sided glitch.

I hope you didn't give Sonora a free kill!
I don't think it's a hack. I have fought Sonora many times and he/she has never done anything "hackish". I have had a similar thing, were I had Reeses targeted, but I couldn't cast. The game is a little buggy sometimes. Nothing you can do but report it.

I have fought Sonora like 10 times till now but had no issue like this.
I don't think it's a hack, but just server problem or smth.

Something similar happened to me with a minstrel.
We were on our boat heading to the same location, coast to coast.
I launched the 1vs1 right after disembarking the boat.
I was unable to touch him and I got the msg "too far away" even if his name was in white.
Then I clicked somewhere else and did retarget him and then I was able to attack him again.
I think it's because I have selected him when he was still on the boat. Looks like there's target glitch somewhere.

I get what you are saying and maybe that was your issue, but I was in DF =P

in the video, it happened coincidentally as long as the mezzimony, which has also angered me very much
but if you notice, it's usually too late

on phoenix, there are no bug here they are all features
and bugfixes are only available if players can explode it directly.

This. Have to reset your target in order to "fix" it. Seems to be a targetting bug mainly associated with stealth.
