What exactly is require to get "Defend X Keep" for task credit?

Pretty curious of this, I have been at keeps when guards are pulled and killed somebody in the vicinity of a keep and then received no credit, so what must one do to get defend the keep task credit?

No answer for this? I have seen much speculation, now i'm seeking a definitive answer. I have both killed somebody and been near a keep when guards are pulled and not received a reward, so please answer.

Need to be in region once, its displayed in your log.

im probably wrong, but i swear ive been in the same zone at the keep, been killed (a long ways away) and not granted the task.....so can i confirm im wrong and should get credit? i.e. port to odins, be killed out front of apk and ill get the credit so long as its attack/ defend the keep in that area?

You have to be close the keep which you are supposed to be defending. You can't just die in front of apk and get credit.
