Hi all,

I need to buy a cheap ish PC, it is going to be pretty much purely to play DAOC. I found these system specs online, but I’m not sure which are appropriate for Phoenix?

https://darkageofcamelot.com/content/system-requirements

Could anyone advise?

Thanks!

The linked requirements are the official ones and because Phoenix is using the same client its the same.

A basic gaming system with enough power for DAoC and more modern games on mid-settings could be:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-A320M-S2H V2
RAM: G.Skill Aegis 8GB DDR4-3000 (to synergize with the Ryzen CPU, DDR4-3000 is recommended)
GPU: AMD RX 570 or Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti
Power: be quiet! System Power 9 400W

In total this would be max 400 EUR / 450 USD.
If not existing from a previous system you obviously need a case, hard drive and Windows.

Great, thank you!

And some good internet

The Ryzen GPU can easily run daoc by itself lol.
No need to buy a 1050TI

On a other Freeshard i've played with a nVidia GT 710. Full HD. Runs smooth.

before it completely broke down recently, i was playing on a laptop (from ALDI...a supermarket chain, not an expensive gaming laptop) that was already over 12years old (and bought used) for ~200euros
Sadly i don't have the speccs anymore (As i completely trashed the thing just a few weeks ago) but it had no issue running the game on this freeshard

i guess you could set up a PC with basically the cheapest hardware that is freely available and it should be able to run this (i wouldn't use onboard graphics, but some are probably even able to handle it)

I'm playing with a core i5 3550 and a Radeon hd4850
Enough for 60+ fps

I'm using a Radeon R9 380 (2015), and a AMD FX 6300 (6 cores -2012), with normal plate hard drives, no SSD, and 8GB RAM and it ran flawlessly with all the graphics at max.

But I also have fiber optic internet.

I do have an ssd drive and i think it helps performance quite a bit .

I have an I-3 7100 with 8 gigs of ram and a cheap gforce 1030 gt

The thing runs flawlessly and it was quite cheap.

as i also don't know too much about PCs (unless i am just buying a new one myself) i can't tell you which of those is the best "bang for your buck", but at least i can assure you that all of them should run DAoC without problems

I'll have a go at this; anyone else feel free to correct my information/opinion. This is also under the assumption that, down the road, the pc will be used for something else.

Option 1: Seems decent. ASRock Mobos are okay. RAM/GPU/PSU/ good. CPU is roughly 200$ on it's own (I'm not familiar with this chip) so that seems fine. The only downside I see is the limited hard drive space. 256 SSD is wonderful until you use it as the primary drive and only drive for your system. You may find yourself a little short down the road; otherwise, this seems good. The price tag on this PC most likely is coming from the video and CPU.

Option 2: Overall this is a good build. I'm going to guess this is a fairly new build because they have DDR4 RAM seated on the Mobo which means you could buy new parts for the machine down the road and wouldn't have to worried about inflated prices due to scarcity of parts. My only downside is the lack of SSD for games or running application quicker, but you can find a 128 for very cheap on sale.

Option 3: I'd honestly avoid; only for the reason that the front hub for ports is potentially failing on the mobo. This could point to numerous reason, but it's best to avoid if you have other options. If the mobo failing wasn't a concern, it's a decent pc to grab. RAM is a little slow but is at least DDR3.

Option 4: Is sold, but that's the one I liked the most (Ryzen fan).

So of those options, I'd probably rank in this order:
