Shield (-slam) chance to hit

As I had a discussion in-game about this topic, I would like to have a definive answer from a dev, as I find different information online and players seem to have a split opinion about this.

Is it the case that

a) Your main weapon skill determines the chance to hit with slam. That means, for example, if a Hero specs 50 shield but has 1 Blades, he will have a hard time landing slam, as his weapon skill, which is mainly determined by his main weapon (e.g. Blades), determines the weapon skill.

or

b) Solely the shield spec and Dex determine the chance to hit, as described in these posts:

Which means, a Hero with 50 Shield and 1 Blades has the same chance to hit with his shield as a Hero with 50 Shield 50 Blades (and by extension has a better chance to hit than a Hero with 42 Shield).

Thanks!

You're second answer is correct. Shield is it's own weapon with it's own dps, attack speed, and weaponskill.

Follow up question: Does WS/con debuff poison impact shield and bow weaponskill or just primary WS?

The whole point of changing the debuff to WS debuff from str/con debuff was to allow the poison to affect all weaponskill not just str based weapons

Shield basically has a hidden weaponskill which is not shown as the game (iirc) only lists the highest WS your char has (which depends on stats & skills) which usually is either your 1handed or your 2handed skill.
