Shield size / blocking

How does shield size interact with blocking in RvR here?

My understanding was:

Small shield: 1 attacker
Medium shield: 2 attacker
Large shield: 3 attacker

A block penalty is applied for having more attackers than your shield size would allow.

Also, how does all of this interact with Guarding an ally?

Please set me straight on how all if this actually works on Phoenix. Thanks.

I asked the same question in discord yesterday night and uthred answered me, that in PvE the same thing you described above applies, but in PvP it’s completely irrelevant with what kind of a shield you are guarding someone.

I think that in pve and when the target is attacking you, the shield size per attacker you posted is correct, but shield size does not matter for guarding an opponent. I could be wrong tho. But I think I'm right 😊

I can verify from levelling a scout on live that shield size does not affect guard, I would block like crazy when I was grouped with my guildie's pally and pulling multiple mobs.

Okay thank you everyone who replied. So it is settled:

Small shield is the way to go for every reason blocking/guarding/swing speed.

Quoting myself from another thread. Thoughts?

Here's a monkey wrench thrown into the seemingly settled question of shield size in RvR....

If you are guarding someone from pet spam (such as in the case of a Theurgist or BD sending pets after your target or even you) does the blocking code take into account RvR rules or PvE rules? I would assume PvE would be the case here so keep those large shields handy!

Any feedback on the pet scenario?

Large shield users should still use large shields. There are large shields in each realm with 3.0 speed. Pretty baller

It's irrelevant though if it adds zero benefit.

Does shield size not even increase block chance against multiple attackers in RVR (not counting guard)?

You can't block multiple attackers with a small shield

From what people are saying in RvR you can block an infinite amount through guard with a small shield.

You said not counting guard. Shield size doesn't matter for guard. Only when getting trained.

So the best blockbot in the game would be a saracen scout with all in dex, capped dex buffs, 50 shield (+rr+11(SC)), moblock9 and aug dex9?!

Has anyone ever tested that?

Shhhh! It's the best kept secret in the game

Isn't block capped at 50% ? I believe racial difference was kind of insignificant in this aspect (like +1 or 2% for a saracen compared to a highlander) . Although my memory might not serve me correctly here.

Iirc block used to be capped at 75%. But only for you blocking for yourself. Just like shield size only mattered for blocking for yourself.

We used to level in NF poc with paladin (puller), ice wizz and cleric (+up to 5 twinks) with the paladin blocking the icer which could result in the wizz not getting hit at all during some pulls. If the paladin had aggro he got hit a lot more frequently than the wizz.

I never tested it, but my scout guarding a pally sure seemed to block a lot. The block reactionary was basically an anytime style.
