Realm Switch Timer ...

What is the reason for it being 12 hours and is there a chance that it could be dropped to 8 hours?

I, personally, would have a much easier time switching realms if i could play until I went to bed and then shortly after I woke up (kids guide the play times) was able to play another realm.
