Gemcutting - How to Improve ROG Items?

I tried using the Craft window to improve a ROG ring but all I got was a message stating, "Only crafted items can be enchanted!"

Can we get some details on exactly how this is supposed to work?

EDIT: Also, some details on limits (how high can a given stat/resist be raised), scope (are stats (Str, Dex, Con, etc.) and resists the ONLY things that can be raised? Skills?), etc. would be really appreciated. I mean, can I take a 30-utility ROG ring and transform it into an 80-utility item through this process?

You need to add the gem dust and ash

When you add Dust into the trade window (as you would with Spellcrafting an item) it will tell you exactly what is required in terms of Ash and Dust to increase the stat/resist based on the Perfect SC Gem you've also added in the trade window. When you have added enough of the required Dust and Ash you can hit accept and the item will have the resist/stat increase by one point. there is not chance of failure that I have seen, and any excess Dust and Ash is returned to your inventory.

You can only increase a stat or resist already on the item, you can't add new ones, and yes atm stats and resists is all you can increase. I'm not sure about what's the cap, I imagine it's whatever the cap is for RoG jewelry. However, for most players that's an irrelevant question because the cost of increasing a high stat or resist is extremely high, prohibitively so. I found increasing stats/resists below 5 to be affordable and worthwhile on already relatively high utility items, and I've only been on the server for a short while so I'm not rich. Theoretically it would be possible perhaps to increase a 30 utility item to an 80 utility item, if the item started out with loads of 1 or 2 resists and stats. However, it would be a complete waste of resources, when you could use ash and dust to roll for a better utility item MUCH more cheaply.
