Does mezz break mezz?

The question may sound stupid, but suppose a healer throws a long lasting mezz at somebody. A fraction of a second later, a skald hits the same person with his short instant mezz. Does the second mezz break/overwirte the first one? This question was asked in /advice the other day, but it seems that nobody knew for certain.

No mezz doesn't break mezz and it also rupts if they're immune.

Edit: also in your healer skald scenario, the long mezz would land, and the instant mezz would not overwrite the healers (unless the healers mezz resisted and the skalds landed ofc)

In RvR, your scenario would result in the first mez lasting its full duration unless cured or broken by a non-mesmerization spell.

In PvE, the primary mez would be cut in half, and if the target were mezzed yet again before a full minute passed, it would be reduced to a quarter duration.

In DS I think you can still spam AoE Mezz and it won't reduce the mezz duration on already mezzed targets, its like RvR.

In world PvE, mezzes, roots and stuns stick to the target and have the reduced duration:
- If a target is mezzed for 30second, and at 27second you remezz it (with the same 30sec spell), then the duration becomes 15seconds., then 7.5.
- Same for slam, if you slam for 9seconds, and slam again right after, the slam will be overwritten and will last a maximum of 4.5 seconds.
- If you numb for a 1second stun, and after slam the target the slam will last 4.5 seconds.
Think of it has the mob has 3 dices that count #of times mezzed, #of times rooted, #of times stunned:
- n(stun)
- n(mezz)
- n(root)
each count increase reduces the duration of the next effect of that type by half (1/2)^n
1/2, 1/4, 1/8 and n has a maximum value of 3, after 3 effects the mob is immune for 1 minute.
