Aggro mode for Cabalist pet not working

I'm standing close to mobs (close enough to see their names), but when I set my pet from Defense to Aggro, he doesn't attempt to attack anything. I have to get close enough for the mob to attack me first before my pet will start defending me.

This is also true for bonedancers. Putting pet on aggressive does nothing.
