Old character models all the way! Really don't like the "swinging" way of moving of the new models.

If I had a choice I would go old with everything. Old classic houses, old capital cities, old DF especially

The old DF was much better, yes.

The original character models are in all objective ways, worse, in comparison to the new ones (apart from Sylvan shoulder leaves missing). I don't hate the old ones, because of nostalgia, but I use the new ones because they are just much nicer looking. In that they actually look like they might be people.

To each their own! I hold the opposite opinion and use older models for many reasons, easier to differentiate classes/realm at clip ranges at a glance but maybe I am just so used to them, and I think they are better. Some of the new models weren't done correctly causing some hairstyles to be glitchy and flickering with nvidia hardwere where they didn't with the old radeon cards which was weird but it persists to this day.

I personally use new models for the realm I am playing and old ones for he other realms, oftentimes I can tell friend from foe from distance just by the way they move.

I actually hate the glitchy hair with nvidia too! Just not enough to use the angular, pointy, triangle, polygon filled old models =P Though I will agree that many are easier to recognize from range.

New Models.
Old Models look dogsh*t imho and many emotes and animations just don't work on them. I don't know why you ever would play with those models other than nostalgia. For me classes look all the same in old models, it's -for me- much easier to tell what class someone is playing with new models. On the other hand i play with old icons, because the new icons just look like someone puked over a glowing-glitter mix of symbols.

Old models cause they look a lot better than the new models (new models shoulders, helms, boots are unproportional and ugly, I dislike most new faces, the running animation are horrible, they are all tilted back weirdly, new cloaks are awful, dragon armors are mostly bad looking too IMO).

I use new model for horse.
I sometimes switch around between old and new for a few races: Valkyn, Inconnu, Firbolg, Lurikeen, Half Ogre, Kobold. I just hate the armorpads/helmet/cloak so I switch back quickly.

I don't understand how people can prefer the new models.
Its like what they did with Elder Scrolls, they took out the charm, replaced it with cold, glassy and standardized robots.
Look at the difference between the trees, the new models is just fake texture and highlights...
Look at the architecture, the old one looks a lot more realistic, then look at the new models who would build these round, wavy, strong, very designed buildings... noone.
Look at the character the armor looks better, but the model and rigging is based on a human body, very lazy model/rigging/animation work. All the flavor is lost.

For DAoC:
The old models are the mythic western movies
The new models are a porn ripoff remake
Who would wear a belt like this, what are those boots and gloves and shoulders.... Which crafter made those, very unrealistic.
Old models look sharp. They are adult designs, the new models are half cartoony!

its just the difference between the imperial architecture in seyda neen and the dunmer architecture in balmora :-)

1- Got to your character selection screen
2- Click on Options (bottom-center)
3- Click on [Configure Figure Versions...]
4- Select Classic for each race, alternatively click on the bottom left on CLASSIC to select classic skins for all races.

I know what you mean, new isn't necessarily better. Sometimes all there is to style is just the technical limitations the artist had at the time he was working.
That is why we think black and white photos or films are cool. Or pixel art.
If you like the grainy aspect of cave paintings or the segmented shapes of stained glass, well those are just limitations of old technique too.

So yes, old models don't look better but they feel right.

As for stupid shoulder pads, which by the way have invaded about every historical fiction art without any practical or historical reason, I think they're inspired by the last true brutes of our age that wear armor and go on a battlefield : american football players.
I'm trolling but think about it, the only reason to protect your shoulders that much is that you have no weapon or shield and plan to charge literally head down into the enemy.
